Lascia ch'io pianga | Handel aria in the style of a Schubert Lieder

Handel's "Lascia ch'io pianga" is one of the most beautiful and poignant arias ever written. It is also one of the most popular, having been performed and recorded by some of the world's greatest singers. Handel himself was so fond of the melody that he used it frequently in other operas an cantatas. So what would happen if we re-worked the famous melancholy melody in the style of a German Lied by the master of the form Schubert.

This piece is our interpretation of how Handel would have written his famous aria in the style of a Schubert Lieder. It uses all of the elements that make Schubert’s lieder so special, moving harmonies with beautiful melodies and simple, yet powerful, lyrics.
